ART WORK

PERRY — Lauren West, a student at Perry High School, showcases work she produced while mentoring professional artist Nancy Stoddard in a new exhibit at the Arts Council for Wyoming County, 31 South Main St.

“A Walk in the Woods” runs until June 25.

Lauren was awarded the ACWC Creekside Fabrics Visual Arts Fellowship in 2021, which allowed her to spend a year studying with a professional artist. The exhibit features paintings created by West during that year.

Stoddard is a painter who often paints outdoors or outdoors. Stoddard’s painting “Bluebells of Geneseo” was among the works featured in a 2015 art auction to benefit the Genesee Valley Conservancy. The painting was created during the Conservancy’s 2015 Bluebells Walk on the Way of the Nations.

One of Lauren’s exhibits is titled “Nations Road”.

Lauren was the 8th recipient of the ACWC & Creekside Fabrics Visual Arts Scholarship for Young Artists.

Now in its ninth year, the ACWC & Creekside Fabrics Visual Arts Fellowship is made possible through a partnership between ACWC and Creekside Fabrics in Arcade. It is awarded annually to a high school student who wishes to further their education in the visual arts, including painting, photography, textile arts, ceramics and carpentry. Worth $900, the scholarship includes a one-year apprenticeship with one or more local masters of fine arts or crafts in the student’s chosen discipline.

Lauren’s scholarship culminated with this solo exhibition.
