The Dragonfly Art Gallery, located at 116 E. Main Street in Harrisville, will hold an open house for Kathryn Cubalo, artist of the month, and Tom Heatley, guest artist, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on August 14.
“We are very fortunate to have photographer Tom Heatley with us for another month,” Dragonfly owner Lynne Freitag said in an email. “I was able to visit him the last time I worked at Dragonfly. He had a lot of interesting stories to share with me. He has a story for each of his photos. Guests who come to the open house will have the opportunity to ask him questions about his travels at home and abroad.
The very talented Kathryn Cubalo is originally from the spruce and received her Bachelor of Education degree from Eastern Michigan University. While raising a family with her husband, Lloyd, Kathryn increased her desire to paint by taking art classes at Schoolcraft College in Livonia. After the Cubalos returned to Alcona County, Kathryn continued to study with such well-known artists as Helga Flower, Bridget Austin, Robert Salo and Roland Roycroft. Her professional memberships include the Northeast Michigan Artists’ Guild (NEMAG), the Besser Museum for Northeast Michigan, and the Dragonfly Art Gallery.
Most of his paintings reflect the peace and tranquility of landscapes or flowers. She works from her own studio in Lincoln and welcomes opportunities to explore new dimensions of art and share her vision of the beauty of northern Michigan and this wonderful community.
