It’s the best art museum in any New England state, according to Yelp

A Berkshires Museum located inside refurbished 19th-century mill buildings has just been named Massachusetts’ best art museum by Yelp.

Yelp released a list of the best art museums in each US state on Monday, and its pick in Massachusetts is the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (Mass MoCA) in North Adams.

“From historic artifacts to modern paintings, these places can transport you beyond four walls,” Yelp wrote of its list. “In fact, some might even say that the building itself can be a work of art.”

Other New England museums on the list: Yale University Art Gallery in Connecticut, Portland Museum of Art in Maine, Currier Museum of Art in New Hampshire, RISD Museum in Rhode Island, and Southern Vermont Arts Center in Vermont.

To build the list, Yelp identified the best museums in each state and ranked them based on total volume and reviewer ratings between Jan. 1 and Oct. 11, as well as other factors.
