There will be an opening reception at the Deines Cultural Center in Russell on Friday, November 19 from 5 to 7 p.m. for the art exhibit A Roaming House, A Journey Home by Joey Embers.

In 2001 Joey Embers, originally from McPherson County Kansas, graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art from Bethany College. It was around this time that he found a passion for learning and a strong sense of identity with a brush in hand and usually a face smeared with charcoal.

The paintings in this exhibition are from a larger work titled A Roaming House, A Journey Home, begun in 2014. The series depicts a house suspended in an endlessly changing landscape of time and emotion. Using bright, bold colors and a wide array of branding, Embers takes the viewer on a journey through a surreal mental landscape. The composition of each painting begins to reveal a dialogue between each of them. If you change the order and relationships of the paintings, they will tell a different story.

The exhibition of Embers paintings will be at the Deines gallery from November 19 to January 5.

The Deines Cultural Center is located in Russell at 820 North Main Street and is open from noon to 5:00 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and Saturday and Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Call 785-483-3742 for more information. ‘information.
