Artists from the East Midlands have the chance to showcase their work in a prestigious exhibition at the Leicester Museum and Art Gallery.

Now in its 33rd year, the Open 33 exhibition provides a showcase for talented artists from across the region. Entry is open to all, and artwork can be submitted by all types of artists, from complete beginners to seasoned professionals.

A variety of artworks, paintings, sculptures, textiles and more will be featured at the event and some will even be available for purchase.

Artists over the age of 19, who live or study in Leicester, Leicestershire, Rutland, Derbyshire, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire or Northamptonshire are encouraged to submit their work for exhibition.

There is also a separate category for young artists aged 5-18 to ensure that talented artists of all ages do not go unnoticed.

Artists have until Sunday, October 23, 11:59 p.m. to submit their application online. After the closing date, a jury will select the paintings, sculptures, textiles, prints and photographs to be exhibited at the museum in December at the Leicester Museum and Art Gallery on New Walk near the city centre.

Works of art will be on sale and exceptional pieces will be rewarded with prizes donated by local businesses and groups.

Councilor Piara Singh Clair, the city’s deputy mayor for culture, leisure and sport, said: “The annual open exhibition always attracts huge interest from all kinds of artists.

“It provides a platform for emerging and established artists to showcase their work in the fabulous setting of Leicester Museum and Art Gallery, and it’s a great way to celebrate the region’s rich artistic diversity.”

Entry fees for Open 33 are £15 for a single work, £25 for two and £30 for three pieces. Reduced rates are available for students and over-60s, and admission for young artists is free.

The Open 33 exhibition opens on December 10 and runs until January 20.
