The Prize for Football Art
Submitted by Alexandra Hudson
A new art exhibition to celebrate art and football has been launched to coincide with the 2022 World Cup.
The Touchstones Rochdale Football Art Prize is a chance for artists to present their work in a traveling exhibition.
The exhibition will visit Rochdale, Greater Manchester, Sheffield, South Yorkshire and Sunderland, Tyne and Wear.
Artists are encouraged to participate by submitting their two-dimensional artwork, including painting, drawing, digital art and photography, and the moving image.
Touchstones Rochdale is looking for residents of Rochdale in particular to participate in the exhibit.
Entries will be judged by a prestigious jury comprising art critic and independent curator Sacha Craddock, Sunderland Museum & Winter Gardens curator Jo Cunningham, and co-head of culture at Touchstones Rochdale, Mark Doyle.
Footballer David James will also be on the panel.
Mark Doyle said: “We are truly delighted to host the Football Art Prize at Touchstones Rochdale, further encouraging local people to become more engaged in the arts through a subject that is not generally associated with the arts; Soccer.”
The winner will receive £ 500 in cash, with second and third places awarded £ 3000 and £ 2000 respectively.
All shortlisted entries will be featured in a virtual gallery and all exhibiting artists will also be included in a fully illustrated printed catalog.
All participants must be over 18 and the submission deadline is Friday November 19 at 5:00 p.m.
