Therapeutic art exhibit presented in downtown Pembroke, Ontario.
Pembroke Business Improvement Area, Art Therapist Marilyn Saffery and retired Canadian Armed Forces member Derrick Nearing are pleased to partner with 10 local businesses to bring Warrior Walkabout to you.
Warrior Walkabout is a therapeutic art exhibit by local veterans.
Healing from trauma is often compared to a long journey on foot. The public is invited to take their own walk and see the art and poetry created by veterans which will be displayed in storefronts in downtown Pembroke between November 1 and 14.
The exhibits are intended to give recovering veterans a voice while raising awareness of post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety and depression, and provide a deeper understanding of art therapy. The exhibition includes experimental, directed, revealing, conceptual and concrete works. Each piece tells its own story, time and place, reflecting a personal part of the artist’s life, whether it took 10 minutes to complete or hours of concentration.
The art exhibits will be presented at 11 downtown businesses, including:
- Purvis Kitchen & Carpentry
- Heritage Hearing
- madamek
- Howard’s Pawnbroker
- H&R block
- Seventh Heaven Candy
- The Phoenix Center
- Crazy Beautiful Dresses and decor
- doghouse ink
- Madawaska Coffee
- Goldstream Jewelers
Maps will be available at the PBIA office located at 130 Pembroke Street West, the Purvis Gallery at 185 Prince Street, and on Facebook at Valley Veteran Art.
